Lay Description

Yoga has been used to help with treatment for specific disorders that deal with the nervous system. Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia (IST) are syndromes that may be related to the nervous system.

We wish to study if yoga can have a beneficial effect for patients with POTS and IST.

Accepts Healthy Volunteers

Inclusion Criteria

  • Age greater than or equal to 18 years old
  • Diagnosis with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome
  • Diagnosis with Inappropriate Tachycardia Syndrome
  • Patients who could perform the recommended yoga exercises

Exclusion Criteria

  • Age greater than or equal to 59 years old
  • History of structural heart disease (including coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathies, and congestive heart failure)
  • Patients with carotid sinus hypersensitivity, carotid sinus hypersensitivity
  • Patients with abnormal ECG, arrhythmias, and implanted cardiac devices
  • Patients with conditions that prevent participants from performing yoga (including epilepsy and psychiatric illness)
  • Patients with interstitial lung disease, rheumatoid arthritis, scoliosis, and ankylosing spondylitis
